Weak shoulder
If my shoulder is weak from an earlier dislocation, do you recommend taking kendo?
Answer: Thank you for your question. First of all, I am not a doctor. So please consult your doctor.
I have shoulder problems. I had a surgery on my left shoulder because I did not do anything to it for the past 20 years. Basically, I did not take a good care of it.
If you train something very seriously and everyday for a long time, then you will get hurt. It is not because it is a full contact martial arts but because of repetitive movements.
If you want to do
kendō, you should know how to take care of not only your shoulder but also your own body.
I still have pains in my shoulders (yes both shoulders now). But I still do
kendō. I warm them up before training. Stretch them. After training, I ice my shoulders.
I have a back problem too. Knee surgery as well. Snapped Achilles tendon in the past. But still doing
kendō.
You can still do
kendō but you also have to learn how to take a GOOD care of your body.
Hope this helps.
