There is a learning process for pretty much everything by: Santiago B. Tejada
Some dojos require students to spend some time practicing before wearing kendogi/hakama as well as for wearing bogu (protection equipment.)
Given the fact that many students come in on a trial basis, it would be prudent to not to incur into big expenses for kendogi and bogu until after any required time has been satisfied and the decision to pursuit kendo has really been made.
I have seen many people spending moneys on things they will never get to use, or use for a good deal of time.
Also, keep in mind that there are individuals and cultures who are not used to wearing kendogi (keikogi and hakama) and there should be time allowed for getting used to wearing them, hakama in particular.
Sometimes during practice students trip on their own hakama while moving. Make sure you somehow get use to it to avoid falling and getting injured.
Enjoy kendo!
