Good training to get in shape before starting Kendo?

I was wondering what a good training routine would be for someone out of shape. I have let myself go pretty badly and I want to get in shape before I start Kendo training. So my question is, what is a good routine to do so? Like, running so many miles, lifting so many pounds, etc.
Answer: Thank you for asking. I have to tell you that I am not a certified trainer. So whatever I say here is just through my experiences. I really suggest that you should talk to someone who knows this area.
I'm not too sure what you mean by out of shape, but if you mean you're overweight, you should start changing your diet. It doesn't matter what you do if you don't change your diet you cannot lose your weight as fast as you want.
For example, if you drink soft drinks such as Coke every day like crazy, you've got to stop doing that. Probably you should start drinking water. Of course you can't change your diet totally on day one, so you can gradually decrease the amount of soft drinks you drink and substitute that for water.
Once you have lost weight, you can probably start running or doing some kind of cardio exercises. And probably you shouldn't do it too much at the beginning, unless your body is really strong. Many people exercise too much at first few days and then they will give up because it is too much.
The important thing is you have to start little by little so you can keep going until you can do more.
You have to go to lift weights for kendo but your body should be ready for a hard training, so probably you should start conditioning as well.
The key is "to continue". And gradually increase intensity or distance if you're running.
I am sorry that I can’t go over details but I'm hoping that someone else can jump in and give you advice.
Thank you.
