Different stances in kendo
by Russian kendoguide user
I would like to ask you about the stances in kendo. What stances are used in kendo and what is the main difference between them?
I'm new in kendo. Actually I am going to start practicing next month. Now I am reading about the kendo.
Answer: thank you for your question. In
kendō we have two stances;
chūdan and
jōdan. They're the only stances we use in
kendō.
In
kendō kata, five stances are introduced;
chūdan,
jōdan,
gedan,
hassō,
wakigamae.
The reason why we don't use any other stances is because
kendō has changed.
Gedan,
hassō,
wakigamae and any other stances seen in old
kendō schools are not very practical in
kendō.
Hope this helps.
